Why You Should Set Up a Home Gym
Many people think that the only way to get fit is to buy a membership at a local gym. After all, these health clubs are advertised on television, on the internet and even by word of mouth: it isn’t unusual to hear someone say that they are going to go to the gym after work.
With so much talk of joining a gym, it is easy to believe that people who are really serious about getting healthy become members at commercial health clubs. But this is a misconception. You can get fit and healthy at home without the expense and hassle of a gym membership.
Here are just a few benefits of setting up your own home gym:
1. Cost. Joining a gym can be very expensive. If you used the money you spend on your membership to purchase your own home gym equipment, you would get a much better return on your money. True, good equipment requires quite an investment, but after spending the money, you will have a home gym full of equipment that will last you for years.
2. Time management. Working out at a gym requires a big time investment. Once you consider the commute time to the gym, waiting to use the equipment that you want, taking the time to work out, then commuting back home, it will likely take you hours to do what you could accomplish in perhaps 45 minutes at home.
3. Convenience. Let’s be honest. Many people who start a fitness program quit after the first few months. But the more convenient it is to work out, the more likely you are to continue. Having a gym in your home is handy–you can run down and work out when you get the chance. Sometimes you may need to work out in the early morning, while other days your schedule may make it necessary to work out in the afternoon or evening. This is no problem if you own a home gym: it is open 24/7!
4. Environment. If you have ever been to a gym filled with unruly people, obnoxious music and dirty equipment, you know how nice a home gym can be. No worries about who is watching you or what kind of germs are growing on the bench.
5. Discipline. A home gym can help you with your personal development. When you work out at home, there is no one watching to see how hard you work, how long you train or even if you show up at all. This means that you will have to use discipline to get yourself moving. The good news is that the more you practice the discipline of working out, the easier it will become. And an added benefit is that you will notice that discipline spilling out into other areas of your life as well.
