What is your fitness personality?
You enjoy some exercises more than others, right? It’s not because some are harder than others. It’s more about your unique personality.
Physical activity is another extension of who you are. Because fitness and exercise are vital parts of feeling great, staying healthy, and living longer, it’s important to learn your fitness personality.
You can use that information to identify exercises and activities that you enjoy and look forward to.
Are You Social or Independent?
Do you prefer to exercise with others and work together toward a common goal or do you prefer to exercise in silence? Think about the types of activities you enjoy. Do you enjoy team sports like football or soccer? Or do you prefer running or swimming?
Do You Prefer Spontaneity or Structure?
Some activities are more structured than others. For example, Ashtanga yoga moves through the exact same series of poses every single class. A team sport or CrossFit provides a unique experience every single time.
Aggressive or Passive?
Do you prefer to work it out when you exercise, or feel in the flow? More aggressive activities might include boxing or weight lifting. Racquet sports are also pretty aggressive. Tai Chi, yoga and running may be more passive.
Competitive or Internally Driven?
Do you enjoy competition? If so, consider participating in activities that support that desire. Team sports are one option. You can also get into competitive running or cycling or CrossFit. Individual sports might include dancing, yoga, or walking.
Other things to consider include your desire to take risks, how you’re motivated, and what you want to accomplish with your exercise and fitness program. If you’re unsure about your fitness personality, take some time to discover it. Try different activities and take notes on what you enjoy and why. Fitness should be fun, not a chore. It should add to your life and be something that you look forward to. Find your fitness personality and discover the joy of exercise.
